What am I missing? I’m sure there are types of marketing that I haven’t even heard of yet! What’s the difference between marketing and sales you might ask? Well, in my humble opinion, I believe that marketing is supposed to generate leads, while sales converts leads. Sales helps create the selling strategy, marketing executes that strategy. Fair?
And yet, sales is the one that gets the hate. Before every sales training I deliver, I start by allowing the group to get all the bad words out of their head that come to mind when they hear of sales. Gold Chains, Used Cars, Sleazy, Price driven, Shyster, Pushy, Self-Centered, Aggressive, slicked back hair, annoying… I’ve heard them all.
I’m here to tell you this. SALES IS NOT A DIRTY WORD. Sales is literally putting the right person with the right thing/service. A good salesperson is not going to try to sell you something you don’t need or want. Everyone is a salesperson, your intentions are always clear, so take those leads that marketing is bringing you and be PROUD to listen to their story and steer them to the right solution. They need you.
Sales is simple. A lot more simple than marketing. Sales only needs YOUR intentions and your knowledge. I’m not saying that we should switch the shade to marketing, but let’s give sales a little more love. Cause that marketing piece is CONFUSING.
